Green and Clean

Green and Clean

St Albert Sports City is committed to integrate environmental principles of “green” and “clean” into its St. Albert Sports City development in northwest St. Albert.

Simply, the term “green” is linked to the environment and usually signifies healthy green living and design, and the application of best conservation and recycling practices that help sustain the environment rather than deplete it.  Besides, green living can save money through conservation, reuse and recyling.  The term “clean” is linked to reducing carbon footprints due to human activities that increase greenhouse gas emissions.  Both form part of what is described as ecological living.

On green living in St. Albert Sports City and in its sports facilities, residences and commercial developments, it will address water conservation through a number of approaches including: the adoption of low flow water faucets, shower heads and toilets; landscaping that incorporates trees, shrubs and grasses that require minimum irrigation and maintenance (also reduces or eliminates the need for herbicides); recycling stormwater from ponds and rainwater from the roofs of the large scale multi-purpose sports, recreation and community complex for reuse.  Additionally, energy efficiency will be accomplished through:  better caulking and insulated buildings, better windows and doors, improved drywall; high efficiency furnaces and hot water heating; the use of alternative heating methods, such as solar panels and geothermal systems; and low energy light bulbs.  Recycling will be designed and built into all aspects of St. Albert Sports City.

Clean living in St. Albert Sports City, as in a reduced carbon footprint, will also be achieved through a number of approaches including:  walkways from residences to the sports, recreation and community complex, the commercial centre and public spaces will encourage walking and bicycling and reduce the need for driving within the community (bicycle rack parking will be built in the community); and the application of energy efficiency.
